IN January 2005, the Art Gallery of NSW opened a large survey exhibition of photographs by Bill Henson, one of Australia’s most internationally renowned artists. It included themes present in his work since the 1970s: landscapes, objects, people young and old, The show attracted 65,000 over three months in Sydney: a remarkable number for a photography exhibition. It later travelled to the National Gallery of Victoria in Melbourne, where a further 50,000 saw Henson’s work.

Bill Henson – art or pornography in public
A NAKED lass with budding breasts looks down at the caps lock key on my computer. Her face seems a bit sweaty but the light is dim, as a beam transfixes her from behind and a soft glow fills out her middle with tender reflections and shadows. This tentative juvenile beauty — looking lost and vulnerable — arrived in an email advertising Bill Henson’s exhibition in Sydney, the one that was closed down by the police on Thursday evening.
Bill Henson – art or pornography in public
POLICE are trying to track down a girl, 13, who was photographed naked as part of a Bill Henson exhibition that has been withdrawn from a Sydney gallery Interstate authorities will play a role in determining what charges are laid over images of the girl seized by police from a Sydney art gallery. Rose Bay Local Area Commander Allan Sicard says the 13-year-old girl featured in the studio-produced large prints, photographed by renowned Melbourne-born artist Bill Henson, did not live in NSW.

The opening night of an exhibition by the photographer Bill Henson featuring images of naked children was dramatically cancelled after police visited the Paddington gallery to investigate child pornography claims. The future of the exhibition at the Roslyn Oxley9 gallery, which featured images of a girl and a boy, aged 12 and 13 – some of which also appear on the gallery’s website – is now in doubt.
Gallery manager Amanda Rowell said the reaction action was blown out of proportion.
“It’s (the reaction) never been like this before.
“This is no different to any other exhibition he’s had and he’s had many exhibitions here.
“He’s a master, there’s no one else in the world like him. They’re amazing technically and aesthetically.
“He works with the same models for a number of years. Some now in their 30s are coming to the opening.”

DECIDE FOR YOURSELF
Production, dissemination or possession of child pornography
Members of Sydney’s art community have come out in support of controversial photographer Bill Henson.
Henson has been quizzed by police after his exhibition featuring shots of naked teenagers was closed down last night.
The New South Wales Community Services Minister, Kevin Greene, says his department or the police may take legal action.
“If there are any suggestions that these photographs were taken in New South Wales, we’ll then look to see what our options are,” he said.
But John McDonald, art critic for the Sydney Morning Herald, says there is nothing sexual about the photos.

Facebook is raising $100 million in debt, bringing their total capital raised to nearly half a billion dollars. This most recent round will be used to scale the service via another 50,000 or so servers. Facebook now has over 70 million active users and around 109 M monthly visitors – Compare that to Google, which operates at least a million servers (and is adding 500,000 per year, says Business Week), and Microsoft, which is adding 200,000 servers per year.
Facebook says that “less than 1,000? users have 5,000 friends today. There are around 70 million active Facebook users, so the number of users who are affected is around one thousandth of a percent.

St George burnt by credit dragon and cuts forecast: The global credit crisis and sharemarket turmoil have forced St George Bank to cut its earnings forecast for the rest of this financial year from 10% to as low as 8%, after first-half core profit growth slowed to 6%.
Oh dear, poor st george bank. does that mean their variable interest rates will rise 2 times every month on personal loans??? OF COURSE it does.
St George, don’t your directors buy newspapers and milk and bread and have families to feed as well?

In the 1970s they were cutely called hot pants, the successor to the miniskirt, and were a huge rage. That was followed by a revival in the 1980s. More than 20 years on, hot pants are hot again this season, with major fashion labels offering grown-up and glamorised remakes. {thank you! – ed}
In the entertainment industry, hot pants have long had an illustrious presence – Raquel Welch and Brigitte Bardot were among the sex sirens who drove the guys crazy by squeezing themselves into tight, little and oh-so-hot pants in the 1970s. This time, it is the likes of Jessica Simpson who have helped bring hot pants back in vogue.
Teen pop sensations Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera were practically born into the music industry wearing hot pants, although at her worst, Spears embraced the hooker-shorts look – torn fishnets and cleavage bearing tops – while Aguilera is currently channelling Marilyn Monroe in her 1950s glamour puss styling.
