Ladytron in Melbourne

Saturday, October 4th, 2008

Friday night at the corner hotel – black jeans is the dress code, oops, mine are faded, but the door bitch didn’t mind, in fact she wasn’t a bitch at all. 50 dollars a pre paid ticket with a reserved parking spot for the bmw.. nice one. Ladytron puts out.. the sound wasnt right till half way through the gig, we could tell she wasnt entirely happy, but she came good. Attitude, style, verociousness – what more can you say, this band is cool, goth punk 80s with a complete geek edge that would send you crazy. and they do, but only when your 17, when your 21, your no fun.

Often credited as being catalysts for the current electro pop revival, UK outfit Ladytron last year showed Australian audiences that they were not ones to be shackled by the genre they helped create. Instead, their edgy synth laden art rock noir tempered with classic pop appeal won unanimous approval in sold out rooms across the country.Fans both new and old were seduced by the quartet’s innovative take on future glam, dark disco and pulsating new wave. In 1989 Ladytron may have been the instigators, but it was now clear that they had distanced themselves from the myriad of electro imitators that have since flooded the scene.Returning to Australia this June to take part in Luminous, the inaugural mid-year music festival at The Sydney Opera house curated by legendary artist and music producer Brian Eno, Ladytron will play two additional club shows in Brisbane and Melbourne once again bringing to life the sound and emotion of their latest studio release Velicifero.

POKE – New electro track

Sunday, August 24th, 2008

I should be doing 6 months worth of late accounting, instead I am writing music, when will the government go away and live on mars, theres water there for fuck sake.. heres an inspiration from this after noon, started as a meldoy in the shower and a request from a fan via telegram. music is my sole purpose in life. the onion is peeling and the inner layer is sounds, electro, hats, snares, vocals and effects.. its not all about sex says scott, but you know I disagree…

Aboriginal Artworks

Saturday, August 2nd, 2008

Randomly driving down Brunswick Street in North Fitzroy, and noticing another Art opening. Errr.. its been nearly 24 hours, and I and in complete withdrawal, I need a fix.. more gallery openings, more art and more of Melbourne’s fancy shoe fashion please.

So I have to go. It turns out to be an amnazing opening , a group show of Aboriginal Art, the list of Artists too long and too hard to spell to write here. The top picture was going for $48,000.00 and rightly so.. the work was brilliant, as was the rest of the show.

The gallery is First Look Gallery – www.firstlookmelbourne.com – nice guy owns and runs it.. friendly workaholic.. :)

Tarisse King was showing and her work is beautiful. I love it. She had a few fresh rolled pieces, what an amazing dot artist.Have a peek at the image behind us, its a massive dot artwork..

Hazel Dooney

Friday, August 1st, 2008

Artist and self realised lifestylist. The opening last night in Port Melbourne at MARS Gallery was cool, fat and erotic. Debra Conway and Willy sang 30 minutes and Hazel mingled with a large crowd that were ‘cool’ about her PORNO exhibition.. whether they were confronted or not… remains to be seen.. I certainly heard a few heated discussions between husbands and their wives, bf’s and their gf’s…. I was dam impressed.

Hazel Dooney is showing in Melbourne at the Mars gallery with a photography exhibition called PORNO.

I highly recommend this exhibition, Hazel breaks the boundry of intimacy by revealing her self and exposing herself to the world in a sensual way. Wicked.

Music & Art at the Toff in Melbourne

Wednesday, June 18th, 2008

THERE SHE GOES AGAIN ‘Follow The Raven’ EP LAUNCH with THE DEAD SOUTH & BLACK PONY EXPRESS, at The Toff, Curtin House, Melbourne.

In tune with a night that will peel back your eyelids, arouse your senses, strip back your inhibitions and make you psych out to a new wave of sonic and artistic mutilation, Melbourne based, Italian indie/pop/rock/psychedelic trio There She Goes Again lustfully smash into the scene with the launch of their debut EP ‘Follow The Raven.’ A band whose core sentiment is driven by elegantly raw moody and yet charmingly soulful lyrics also capture the imagination with nail biting guitar riffs and 60s-inspired rhythms, taking the listener on a mind splittingly unique journey through many doors of sound. The night also promises an explosion from fellow counterparts in sonic wizardry, The Dead South who notoriously grind down every stage they hit with their raucous spin on the blues and Black Pony Express who will delicately add their gypsy folk-rock spice to an already seething audio concoction.

To cap off this stunning lineup the bands will be joined by a surprise burlesque troupe and ‘My Lost Closet’ fashion show cavalcading around the nightcap.

Moving whimsically alongside an exhibition of Dackpond’s paintings and Warwick Backer photography that will line the walls before they seemingly fall! So to be part of ‘the movement’ and help turn the Toff into the remnants of an infamous late 60’s art factory, follow the raven to this launch party of parties. We dare you…“Squawk!”
